The Latest Catch

Day One began with a touching tribute to Bob Bisbee in the morning.  This is the one of a few tournament he has not attended in person, but we believe he was with us in spirit -- watching the day play out, as he always has. 

This year, ECO had a great turnout, best fishing and the first time in the history of the event that qualifying marlin over 300 pounds were weighed all three days.

Don’t miss the remaining Los Cabos Offshore, October 19 - 22, 2017 and Black & Blue, October 24 - 28, 2017. Hope we see all of you there.

In closing, Bisbee thanked the Valdez Family of Hotel Buenavista Beach Resort for their help and hospitality adding that the dates for next year are July 31-August 4, 2018.

The tournament awards ceremony to hand out out eleven checks to the winning Teams totaling $590,375. Will be held on the beach overlooking the Sea of Cortez in front of the host Hotel Buenavista Beach Resort beginning at 7:00 p.m Saturday evening  (8/5/17).  

Meanwhile, a mere seven minutes later, Team Tag Team’s Hunter Heryford arrived at the scale with a 39-pound dorado that would be the largest of the tournament thus far, though they were not in the “Gamefish Division.” Heryford managed to lure it in on a “Zucker” black and purple in a click under 30-minutes, their only bite of the day.

As the two crews whooped and hollered, drowning out the sounds of camera shutters clicking, Wayne Bisbee confided, “This is the first time in the history of the ECO that all the jackpots were covered in the first couple of hours.”  Little did he know, but by the time for “lines out,” there would be four qualifying billfish brought to the weigh station:

Owner Rick Twamley, fishing aboard his 60-foot Hatteras Bull Rider, made a first and lasting impression by boating a 427-pound blue marlin on the first day of the 2016 Bisbee’s East Cape Offshore Tournament. That fish, captured on a green and yellow dorado lure after a 68-minute fight, earned Capt. Lucas Parelta and the team the top payout of $340,701. The total purse among this year’s 65-boat fleet was $543,825.

John Peelman and Team Hot Rod know what it takes to win. The Fresno, California angler and his veteran crew adapted to difficult conditions and brought the winning fish to the scales Friday afternoon to earn top honors in the 2015 Bisbee’s East Cape Offshore Tournament.
