The Latest Catch

Karma was a game changer on Day Two as THE “Karma 3” backed into the IGY slip shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Rumors swirled through the crowd eagerly waiting to see what Bisbee’s 2018 Black and Blue daily winner might be. It was the only fish so far, so there was no competitor at that point. And as luck would have it, no other billfish were brought to the scale that day!

As the big fish was hoisted, the crowd gasped while angler Max Briggs confirmed the zeroed IWS Weighmaster scale and waited as Bert Merritt paused until the numbers stopped.  Then he roared … Three Hundred Ninety-Five Pounds as the Team 4 Yahoos high-fived and hugged one another exuberantly.

Bisbee welcomed the large group crowding the stage as he began. “You folks are going to be blown away by the numbers this year. It’s bizarre!  While our number of teams is down, the jackpot is approaching FOUR MILLION DOLLARS and we still have teams signing up.

We have chosen what we feel is the most appropriate place and time to gather in remembrance and celebrate Dad's life. 

Nearly 800 anglers and guests joined in a remarkable demonstration of support of the Bisbee’s Fish & Wildlife Conservation Fund’s first-ever charity event benefiting the projects that were at the heart of the organization when it was established nearly five years ago.  The event was open to the public.

Saturday night was the welcomed finish line for the 120 teams that had fished their hearts out during Cabo’s Black & Blue Tournament.

“Seven qualifiers in one day alone is electrifying; two on one boat and two different species is unusual, plus a last-minute hookup sure made the hump day of the richest tournament on the planet one for the books,” Bisbee marveled.

By the time the final team had submitted their paper work and paid their entry fees, there were 120 teams registered and the cash prizes totaled $3,211,825 which was higher than it had been in 2016.

 All 10 Brothers cheered-on the weigh station crew as they struggled to hoist the second fish. “Hey, we want a new Ten Brothers record” laughed one as the fish slowly settled on the rope. “Three-two-one- let’s have the weight,” begged one brother. Then, the weighmaster drawled out the official weight of 485 pounds!
