OCTOBER 30, 2007
Hello to Everyone,
The 27th Annual Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin Tournament, presented by Snell Real Estate, which took place in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico October 23-27, had 166 teams competing for $3,838,620.00 in prize money, continuing the Bisbee’s tradition of presenting the richest fishing events in the world!
Just days before the start of the tournament, hurricane Kiko threatened to make landfall on Los Cabos, but the day before the event she turned west, away from the area, and dissipated in the Pacific. This resulted in churned up water which, coupled with an opportune moon phase, caused some of the best fishing the tournament has seen in years—201 billfish were released!
The largest fish caught was a 620 lb. blue marlin aboard Angel and the Badman II earning the team $734,415.00. They were followed by a 591 lb. blue marlin on the Missing Lenk giving them $461,962.50. The third place team, Bad Company Wyoming Cowboys took the largest purse of the tournament for their 539 lb. blue marlin. The team walked away with an astonishing $1,421,752.00 making them the recipient of the second largest award handed out in Bisbee’s history. Why did the third place team get the most money? In this event it’s all about which of the optional daily categories you enter, and Bad Company Wyoming Cowboys entered across the board.
The top Release Team this year, with an outstanding release effort, was the Contender One with 31 billfish releases. The Florida team fished aboard a 33’ Contender captained by Bill Cordes.

This was the Black & Blue’s most international event ever, with anglers competing from Australia, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Tahiti, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia and the Ukraine, Switzerland, the U.K. and 47 U.S. States.
The next Bisbee’s event, the Bisbee’s Bluewater CUP Series Championship, takes place in Cabo San Lucas November 29th through December 1st. This invitational tournament will consist of the top ten point earning teams that competed throughout the year in the one or more of the six qualifying CUP events—the three Bisbee’s Los Cabos tournaments and the three Catalina Classic tournaments that took place on Catalina Island in September.
The 2008 Bisbee’s Black & Blue will take place October 21st-25th. For additional information about the Bisbee’s tournaments visit www.bisbees.com.
