Black & Blue Tops $2 Million in Cash Awards
First Place Team Wins $1.1 Million—Lady Angler Lands Largest Marlin
October 23, 2004

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico—Hosted by the Melia San Lucas Resort on October 19-23, 2004, the 24th anniversary of the Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin Jackpot Tournament also presented by Snell Real Estate awarded $2,021,090.00 in cash purses. And it awarded it’s second individual team payout of over $1 million by presenting $1,126,510.00 to the team of the Reel Pain II who swept all of the daily jackpot categories for days two and three, along with prizes for 1st place overall team and second & third place for the overall largest fish categories. This is second year in a row the tournament awarded a single team with a purse of over $1 million.

The largest fish of the tournament was a 645 lb. black marlin caught by Martha Warlaumont from Balboa, CA, onboard her brand new 61 ft. Viking sportfisher Retriever. Martha’s fish was the largest caught on day one, earning her team all of the $458,280.00 worth of daily jackpots that were up for grabs, plus the overall jackpot purse and second place in the team standings for a total purse of 724,330.00.

The “all-release division” was worth $119,250.00, with the team of the Daddy Rabbit winning $77,512.50 for 1st place for releasing 2 blue marlin and 3 striped marlin.

Complete details of all prize money, team member names and their hailing ports are below.

The tournament had 171 boats participate, with almost 800 anglers from nearly all 50 of the US states, and international anglers from Canada, Mexico, Tahiti, Spain, England, France, Sweden, Italy, Germany, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Japan.

Going into the tournament, fishing had picked up from previous weeks. The weather for the event was clear for the first two days, turning to rain on day three. However, with traditional Bisbee Tournament luck (per weather), the rain cleared and the following evening’s outside awards presentation along the marina in front of the Puerto Paraiso Entertainment Plaza was a tremendous success.

As usual, there was a multitude of media professionals present including a Japanese television production team lead by famed Japanese producer Sr. Tanaka who was on site shooting the event for the first time for “Hi Definition TV”. Also present was TV host Capt. Darrin Isaacs from Kona Hawaii. Darrin was filming the tournament for the pilot of his new outdoor TV series “AWOL” (Adventures With Out Land). Given the natural tie-in for high end luxury products and the tournament participants, the ROBB Report was on hand as well, showcasing the yachts and the beautiful real estate opportunities of presenting sponsor Snell Real Estate.
